How to Prepare Your Home Before Your Window Cleaning Appointment

Hiring a professional window cleaning service is a great way to brighten up your home and make everything feel fresh again. But to help the process go smoothly—and ensure the best results—there are a few simple steps you can take to prepare before your appointment.

Here’s how to get your home ready for window cleaning day:

1. Clear the Window Sills and Surroundings

Take a few minutes to remove any plants, picture frames, knick-knacks, or other items from your window sills. If you have furniture blocking access to windows, try to move it a few feet away to give the crew plenty of space to work.

2. Secure Pets

If you have dogs, cats, or other animals who might be startled by people working near the windows, it’s a good idea to keep them in a separate room or safely kenneled during the cleaning. This keeps both your pets and the cleaners safe.

3. Take Down Window Screens (if requested)

Some companies remove screens for you, but others may ask you to do this ahead of time. If your screens are especially delicate or you’d prefer to remove them yourself, check with your window cleaner in advance to see what they recommend.

4. Close Windows Tightly

Make sure all windows are fully closed and latched before the cleaners arrive, especially if you're only having the exteriors cleaned. This helps prevent water from getting inside your home.

5. Let Your Cleaners Know About Problem Areas

Have a window with hard water stains or a spot that always seems to get streaky? Let your window cleaners know. Good communication helps them focus on areas that need extra attention.

6. Disable Any Alarms

If your security system includes window sensors, remember to disarm or adjust it before your service window to avoid false alarms while the team is at work.

7. Ask About Interior Prep (If Applicable)

If your window cleaning includes the interior panes, be sure to ask if there’s anything else you need to prepare inside—especially in areas like bathrooms or kitchens where access might be tight.
